Thomas Day (1801-1861?)

One of North Carolina's most successful furniture manufacturing operations was owned by Thomas Day, a free black man originally from Virginia, who moved to Caswell County in the 1820s. Renowned for his fine craftsmanship, Day's work was highly praised and sought after. His business flourished until the Civil War and the economic decline that followed.
